One of the most skilled professional poker players in the game today is Jason Koon, a graduate of Lewis County High School. Nine final tables, sixty money finishes, and one WSOP bracelet are all owned by the player. In Triton, where he is ranked second only to Brynn Kenney on the all-time money list, Koon is equally legendary.

The American player from West Virginia recently extended his remarkable run at Triton Poker by winning his ninth title overall. He and Mikita Badsiakouski each had four tour trophies going into the new year. However, Koon went on to win five more Triton tournaments, setting a new record for the poker competition with nine titles.

Remarkably, in the 7.5-year history of the tour, Koon has won more Triton championships this year than any other player. 

However, Koon wasn't the only athlete to rejoice after breaking records to win the Triton titles. The legendary Phil Ivey won his fifth Triton title while he was celebrating his victory.

Even so, Koon's most recent triumph wasn't without difficulty. In the main event, he faced competition from 46 other competitors. The 37-year-old poker player won $828,000 after this win, increasing his total earnings to $50.8 million. This represents the total estimated winnings for Koon over the course of his career, including any winnings he may have had at online casinos.

In the entire history of poker, only five players have made over $50 million. With the most recent victory, Koon has jumped up to fourth place on the all-time poker earnings list ($50,296,291), ahead of Daniel Negreanu ($50,296,291).

Since the competition accounts for nearly half of Koon's wins, he is considered one of the greatest Triton Poker players. With a total of $25,483,985, he boasts 38 in-the-money finishes, a record only surpassed by Bryn Kenney at $37.8 million.

Koon received 510 Card Player of the Year points for this triumph as well. It was his fifth championship of the year and his twelfth appearance at the final table. Koon is currently ranked eighth in Global Poker's 2023 POY rankings.

Commenting after the victory, Koon said:

“There was a three or four-year span when I was off the grid playing the biggest short deck games in the world. I don't think that it's just pure luck I've won four short-deck titles.”

Only the top eight finishers in this poker tournament got a share of the $2.76 million prize pool. Kiat Lee from Malaysia came second to pocket $598,000 and 425 POY points.
